Wheelchair Seating Evaluations

Comfort. Function. Independence.

At M & M Home Care, we know that the right wheelchair seating system can dramatically improve a person’s mobility, comfort, and quality of life. That’s why our specialized Wheelchair Seating Evaluations are designed to do more than just check a box—we aim to ensure that each client is safely and optimally positioned for long-term health, function, and independence.

What Is a Wheelchair Seating Evaluation?

A wheelchair seating evaluation is a thorough assessment performed by our licensed therapists and seating specialists. We evaluate how the wheelchair supports your body—especially your posture, pressure points, and mobility needs. Whether you are using a manual or power wheelchair, our goal is to help you sit better, move easier, and avoid complications like pressure sores, skin breakdown, and joint pain.

Who Benefits from a Seating Evaluation?

  • Individuals with neurological conditions such as spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, or multiple sclerosis

  • Patients recovering from traumatic injuries

  • Those experiencing postural changes, pressure ulcers, or chronic discomfort in their current chair

  • Anyone seeking an upgrade to a more customized or properly fitted wheelchair

What We Look At

Our seating evaluations include:

  • Postural alignment – Are you sitting upright and balanced, or leaning and slumping?

  • Pelvic and trunk support – Is your core supported or are you tipping to one side?

  • Pressure relief and skin integrity – Are there early signs of pressure-related damage?

  • Functional mobility – Can you propel or maneuver effectively from this seated position?

  • Environmental and lifestyle needs – Does your seating allow you to participate in your daily routine?

Our Process

  1. Initial Assessment – We meet with you (and your caregiver if applicable) to learn about your medical history, current setup, pain points, and goals.

  2. Hands-On Evaluation – We assess your current wheelchair, try positioning aids, and simulate adjustments to improve posture and function.

  3. Collaboration – We work closely with your physician, DME provider, and insurance to ensure proper documentation and recommendations.

  4. Follow-Up Support – Once the chair is delivered, we provide re-checks, training, and minor adjustments to ensure long-term success.

Why It Matters

Poor seating isn’t just uncomfortable—it can be dangerous. Over time, improper support can lead to pressure injuries, scoliosis, joint contractures, and even respiratory issues. On the other hand, a well-fitted seating system promotes activity, improves self-care, and enhances social participation.
