Michigan Nursing Organizations

Michigan Association of Nurse Anesthetists – work to advance patient safety and advocate CRNAs as high-quality anesthesia providers.

Michigan Center for Nursing – addresses the issues that underlie Michigan’s nursing shortage. Focusing on goals for maintaining an adequate supply of high-quality nurses in Michigan.

Michigan League for Nursing – provides a voice and a forum for dialogue for nursing educators at all levels of education, practice clinicians and the public on nursing care and nursing education in Michigan.

Michigan Licensed Practical Nurses Association – working to promote, support and protect the profession of Practical Nursing.

Michigan Nurses Association – the largest union for registered nurses in Michigan.

Michigan Organization of Nurse Executives – promotes proactive nursing leadership and provides professional development and support for its members.

Michigan Nursing Students Association – provides leadership to its members and the public as the voice of nursing students within the State of Michigan.

Michigan Nursing Resources

Coalition of Michigan Organizations of Nursing  (COMON) – a coalition of nursing organizations within the state of Michigan dedicated to the advancement of Nursing in the state of Michigan. Serve as a vehicle that gives all nurses the opportunity to network, share educational opportunities, and collectively work toward achieving mutually agreed upon goals that promote nurses and nursing in the state of Michigan.

Michigan Association of Health Plans – facilitates communication among members, government, and the industry regarding health care issues of common concern.

Michigan Board of Nursing – provides up-to-date information on various topics related to the practice of nursing in Michigan.

Michigan Department of Community Health – strives for a healthier Michigan. Functions include development of state health policy and management of the state’s publicly funded health service systems.

Michigan Department of Energy, Labor, and Economic Growth – was created to prepare for the energy economy, promote job creation and economic growth in Michigan.

National Resources

American Association of Colleges of Nursing – the national voice for America’s baccalaureate- and higher-degree nursing education programs.

American Nurses Credentialing Center – The ANCC is the largest nurse credentialing organization in the world.  The ANCC Certification offers a variety of nursing educational services.

Minority Nurse Magazine – Serves the growing number of minorities in the nursing profession.

Nurse.org – a large community of nurses that features hospital reviews, nurse stories, guides and more.

National Associations for Nursing

American Academy of Nursing – Made up of 1500 of the top leaders in American Nursing, the AAN is a policy and advocacy group that seeks to help both the nursing profession and the general public by generating, synthesizing, and disseminating nursing knowledge.

American Assembly for Men in Nursing – Open to both men and women, the AAMN is dedicated to discussing issues that affect men in the nursing profession, and advancing the quality of health care in America.

American Nurses Association – A group dedicated to working on the most critical issues that the nursing profession faces- ethics and standards, staffing guidelines, the growing shortage of nurses, patient and nurse health safety, and workplace rights and responsibilities.

American Nurses Foundation – The ANF works for patient and nurse safety and health, encourages more nursing scholarships and research grants, and addresses nursing issues related to multiculturalism and diversity.

Council on Physician and Nurse Supply – a national organization of healthcare professionals committed to addressing the challenge of physician and nurse supply.

Emergency Nurses Association – advocate for patient safety and excellence in emergency nursing practice.

International Council of Nurses – This group sets global standards and practices for the nursing profession, in addition to promoting nurses and nursing around the world.

National League for Nursing – The NLN is a professional organization of nurse educators.  The NLN does encourage and support those who are seeking a nursing career, but it does not have a curriculum for students.

National Association of Hispanic Nurses – Promotes and encourages Hispanic men and women who are in the nursing profession, and seeks to increase the number of Hispanic men and women entering nursing.

National Black Nurses Association – provide a forum for collective action by black nurses to investigate, define and advocate for the health care needs of African Americans and to implement strategies that ensure access to health care, equal to, or above health care standards of the larger society.

National Council of State Boards of Nursing – The national organization of the various nursing governing boards of the different states.  Works to set nationwide standards for nursing and nursing education.

National Student Nurses Association – The national group that represents and assists people studying for a nursing career.
